The time is literally now. I am overjoyed to officially announce I’ve opened a boutique PR agency, Bee Young Communications and Marketing. The buzz on the street may be that the idea happened overnight, but in reality it’s been in the works for a couple of decades.
Years ago, Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson spoke to me about leaving college athletics to work with him on the international track circuit, promoting his brand. The offer was tempting but I wasn’t ready to leave the secure bubble of a full-time job at a top-notch university. Several times since, I’ve debated the idea of setting up my own agency but the timing just wasn’t right. I was still too comfortable basking under the fluorescent glow in my cubicle.

This spring I took the leap and since unofficially opening Bee Young Comms, have quickly welcomed a variety of clients. I’m using many of the skills I’ve mastered over the years to continue my work as a change agent.
Officially, I do public relations, social media, creative content and coaching – call me a Queen Bee of sorts. Unofficially, I work as a project manager, chief listener, organizational guru and life coach. My plan is to work with small businesses to expand, improve their brand, understand social media, develop websites and plan events and more.
The logo is a modern bee. Bees have long been revered as progressive, industrious and hard-working. The bee embodies community, brightness and personal power. With this strong symbol lighting the way, I look forward to helping clients reach new heights and discover new possibilities for the future. The color orange is a symbol of strength and endurance; and it embodies happiness, creativity and determination. Orange represents my agency perfectly: the red of passion tempered by the yellow of wisdom.
As for my past, I spent 23 years working in college athletics, as an SID (Sports Information Director). In the collegiate world, the SID is a jack of many trades: public relations, media relations, internal and external communications, social media, crisis communications, content development, video production, media training, event planning, speechwriter, publications coordinator and website development. I wore each of those hats, many times all at once. The last three years I worked in higher education, primarily on the healthcare side, managing social media to build the brand. In addition, I created a popular Health and Wellness Facebook Live series and penned grateful patient stories.
I’m ready to get to work! Start by checking out my website and then begin following @BeeYoungComms on social media (Follow today: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram).
Please help me spread the word about my agency and feel free to reach out with suggestions. While I’m located in Tampa, I won’t be limited by a zip code as I plan to buzz around the country. I’m already bicoastal, working with a number of clients in California.
