A couple years ago, at an estate sale, we ran across this beauty. I had my fingers crossed behind my back, hoping the seller just wanted to get rid of it. When we said, “$20?”, she shook her head up and down “yes”. I smiled big inside! I couldn’t wait to get home and get started on this mint green treasure.
It had Anthropologie knobs on it that did it no justice.
Inside, it had a mini-hutch that could be removed. The Lincoln secretary had been painted many different colors, including gray, black, red, brown and mint green. It wasn’t going to be a good piece to distress because we didn’t want those other colors melting through after the sander hit it.
We settled on painting it all black, but giving it a pop of color by spray painting the mini-hutch inside turquoise.
I used two of the smaller Anthropologie knobs and added three French-style knobs of my own, coating all of them with a fresh coat of gold spray paint.
The two embellishments on the front door and bottom drawer looked a little plane-Jane just black. I hand-painted gold spray paint on both of them to give it some pop. I love the way it turned out!
Before and After! Devine!
